Tips on Packing for a Backpacking Trip + Packing List Download

One of the questions I get asked most is: How do I pack for a backpacking trip?

Getting out of your comfort zone and seeking adventure is all part of the Wild Living Blueprint. Stepping out your front door takes risk, but with risk comes the chance of great reward. Proper preparation will go a long way towards your success. This is a huge topic for discussion, and I am going to try to simplify it for you. Below are some packing examples and a backpacking trip itinerary for my upcoming trip to Nepal.

I have addressed choosing The Big Three in a previous post and in my ‘So You Want to Be a Backpacker’ series on Fjallraven.com.au (1, 2).

When you first start out, you will over-pack and end up with much heavier items than you really need. Overtime you will become more comfortable with less, and slowly replace your old bulky gear. Below you will find a general packing list. This will give you an idea of how and why to choose the items you need for a backpacking trip.

Feel free to download the packing list, share it with a friend, and use it when planning your next adventure!

This is absolutely great. I really like the way you have gone to the trouble to describe items and allow them to be weighed si you know exactly what you’ll be carrying.
